Local Plan
PROTECTING OUR PRECIOUS LANDSCAPE AND COMMUNITY
KEEP KINLOCHBERVIE
SPECIAL
An unofficial local village masterplan for Kinlochbervie has been circulating informally in the area without a formal launch and with limited community consultation.
The document (officially entitled Kinlochbervie Vision: A Catalyst for Change) appears to have been published by the Highland Council Property & Asset Management Department.
It is of concern that this unofficial ‘vision’ may be being treated as an authoritative part of the statutory Development Plan, despite very little community consultation and a lack of transparency as to the origins, purpose and intended formal status of the document.
Some elements of the masterplan are in line with the Kinlochbervie Local Place Plan published in September 2024, such as potential development of Kinlochbervie Pier, redevelopment of the Harbour House and investment in the waterfront at the harbour.
Equally, suggestions for the development of sustainable tourism and wildlife watching are welcome.
Other elements of the masterplan appear to have been written by the NW2045 network and/or by Galileo Empower itself.
Recently, Highland Council has sought to engage more fully with local residents and community groups with regard to this masterplan.
Highland Council officials say they want to produce a plan which represents opportunities, options and ambitions in our area, but that might include Galileo's industrial-scale windfarm, which we believe would be catastrophic.
We look forward to the opportunity to fully engage with the authors of this document.
