Windfarm

The main elements of the proposed windfarm, as currently proposed, are:

• Up to 18 wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of 200m;

​

• Battery Energy Storage System;​

​

• A control building including substation, parking, and a small storage compound;

​

• Anemometry mast and/or LiDAR;

​

• New and upgraded access tracks including site entrance junction, passing places and turning heads;

​

• Crane hard standings and laydown areas adjacent to each wind turbine; plus turbine foundations;

​

• Power cables linking the wind turbines laid in trenches underground, including cable markers;

​

• Watercourse crossings (upgrade of existing or new as required); Drainage works and borrow pits;

​

• Temporary construction compound;

​​

• Concrete batching plant;

​

• Aviation warning lights to comply with Article 222 of the UK Air Navigation Order (ANO) 2016.

• Health and Safety signs and other signage.

A ground-mounted solar array is also under consideration.

Details of how the windfarm will connect to the national grid have not been confirmed. It is likely that the developer will propose a new pylon line of around 20 miles to connect to the nearest suitable grid connection point at Shin or even further to the east at Dalchork. The towers for this pylon line would devastate not just, the landscape and natural character of Kinlochbervie but, given its isolation, further pylon infrastructure would also threaten the pristine landscape west of the watershed from Skye north to Cape Wrath.
