It's not just the windfarm

The main elements of the proposed windfarm are:

·         15 wind turbines, 200m high;

·         Battery Energy Storage System;

·         Concrete batching plant;

·         A control building including substation, parking, and storage compound;

·         Anemometry mast and/or LiDAR;

·         Permanent new access tracks;

·         Red warning lights on top of each turbine – legally required to avoid aircraft collisions;

A ground-mounted solar array is also under consideration.

In addition to all of this, Galileo Empower has not announced how it would connect to the national grid.

There is likely to be a separate application to connect to a substation at Shin, Lairg or Dalchork, requiring a major overhead power line, stretching across 20 to 30 miles of stunning, unspoilt countryside. There would also be electricity towers, 50 metres in height, all along the route.

The power line has not been included in any of the –  very limited – information supplied so far by the developer.

The windfarm and power line would devastate the landscape of this area and destroy the unspoilt natural setting which is loved by locals and visitors alike.
